Google has unwrapped a new video app dubbed Tangi.

The app aims to be your video go-to for creativity and DIY videos. Tangi comes from Google’s internal incubator called Area 120, and upon launching will be available online and on iOS.

Basically, this is Google’s attempt at grabbing some of Tik Tok and (newly launched) Byte’s short-form video market share. Unlike those platforms though, Tangi is all about helping people learn new things.

The short-form video market seems to be growing exponentially. Vine’s spiritual successor – Byte – launched just last week, while Instagram has unveiled a new feature called ‘Reels’ that lets users make 15-second video clips set to music and share them as stories.

This comes off the back of Hollywood’s first proper foray into the world of short-form streaming – Quibi – as it prepares to launch. At last count, it counted stars such as Kylie Jenner and Steven Spielberg as celebrity backers – and the service plans to release episodic content limited to just a few minutes at a time.
