The advice is part of new recommendations from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aimed at the most vulnerable populations and stems partly from a new study of 70,000 Chinese patients with the virus.
“Have enough household items and groceries so that you will be prepared to stay home for a period of time,” Nancy Messonnier, a senior CDC official, said in a conference call Monday.
Messonnier said the findings from the study determined that about 15 to 20 percent of the Chinese patients studied developed serious illness.
