Zack Snyder’s Justice League Reasserts Ben Affleck as DC’s MOST BADASS Batman

Despite Whedon keeping a lighter personality for Affleck’s Batman, Zack Snyder’s Justice League reasserts him as the most badass Dark Knight ever.

One of the biggest arguments in comic book movies, and pop culture in general, has always been who’s the best Batman. Christian Bale’s version has gone head-to-head with Adam West, Michael Keaton and even Kevin Conroy’s animated take on the Dark Knight, only for Zack Snyder and the DC Extended Universe to chime in with a brutal, violent depiction by Ben Affleck in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Snyder didn’t hold back as he wanted his Caped Crusader as dark and aggressive as possible to hunt Superman down, only for Joss Whedon to walk that back with a more lighthearted Bat in Justice League. However, the Snyder Cut, the latest version of the film, keeps that tone for this character and reasserts Affleck as the most badass Batman ever.

Out of all the versions, Bale was the most soldier-like in the Christopher Nolan films, until Affleck’s take proved what a one-man wrecking crew could do. As he ran through criminals, branding them and even using guns to kill and flay — per that intense warehouse scene to rescue Martha — it proved as intimidating as could be. Until that point, we never got a Batman that moved so swiftly and hit so hard, which made sense as he was driven by pure, unfettered rage.

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, though, as heroic as he’s trying to be — with aliens invading courtesy of Steppenwolf and Apokolips — he’s out of his depth compared to gods like Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, metahumans like Flash, or WMDs like Cyborg. He does need power boosters and proper defensive mechanisms, which is where Alfred’s energy-absorbing gauntlets come in. They allow Batman to absorb Superman’s heat vision when he returns, enraged from the dead, giving him some sort of resistance against a warped Man of Steel — but more so, he also uses it in battle to stop Parademons shooting at him at the site of the Unity.

And, as the old adage goes, the best defense is a good offense, which the Bat takes to heart in the finale. After he spends most of Justice League assembling the heroes and transporting them around using his superpower of being rich, he then takes the spotlight for himself a bit, cutting loose with his arsenal — the Batmobile and Bat-plane — in the end to shoot down Steppenwolf’s tower.

This lowers the shields for the League to attack, perfectly fitting the ethos of the character from animated movies and cartoons. It gives him a mission in which he can take down dozens of aliens, showing that a grounded hero can make a difference. Snyder simply enhances him as a war machine in tactical armor, paving the way for the League like a leader should.

He sticks to his strengths after assessing his flaws and delegates workloads. And as seen when he swings to the tower to knock off a Parademon and starts using his gun, Bruce is indeed versatile and someone who adds value — much more than seen in Whedon’s iteration, which gave a lot of heavy lifting to the others. Most importantly, this is how comics have portrayed Batman when the world’s at stake, showing just how he could help stop the end of days against beings with much more power. Clearly Snyder wanted to delve into this idea more with the Knightmare realm we’ll never get.

HEAD TO HEAD

Comparing Marvel and DC Comics is not a competition, to begin with. There is a lopsided MCU victory for obvious reasons if movie popularity is concerned. But in a fight between two of their most glorified faces, who would win between Captain America vs Batman?

Although the star-spangled super soldier and the caped crusader of Gotham City hail from separate universes, converging the Marvel & DC characters in a fight would be every comic book fan’s dream. We scoured every angle we could find to see how a Batman vs Captain America fight would play out.

Captain America has enhanced human capabilities while Batman’s skills don’t lag much behind. Their skills are fairly equal.

Captain America and Batman differ in fighting styles and principles. Both are willing to damage opponents during unavoidable fights, but the Mjolnir-wielding hero of Marvel can pull the plug against villains when needed. In comparison, Batman has a no-kill policy which explains why Joker has been kept alive, and Joker remained the mainstay villain.

Batman might pull his punches, but Cap sure won’t if it comes to the extremes.

Captain America

Intelligence & Wit
Steve Rogers inclined his life to applied sciences, and while the MCU might not reveal that, he is smart. Walking the earth since World War II polished his skills in diplomacy and politics far above any of his contemporaries. Before being Captain America, he served some time in the army, further adding to his strategic skills.

Powers

Steve Rogers received the mantle of Captain America after receiving the super-soldier serum. This granted him enhanced human capabilities like super strength, reflexes, speed, and durability. Captain America’s shield is the primary weapon capable of withstanding an insane amount of damage.

Tactical Skills
Captain Rogers always proves his tactical genius when the Avengers are all assembled in the movies. His leadership and guidance grant them the upper hand no matter how perilous the adversaries are. The official Marvel handbook states that Spider-Man is stronger than Cap in many categories, but he managed to outmatch spidey in Civil War thanks to his tactical battle experience.

Strengths

Cap has enhanced human strengths, which enables him to fight alongside literal gods and cyborgs as they save the earth. Adding to his arsenal of strengths is his  so called indestructible shield which Thanos Almost Shredded

He also used Mjolnir against Thanos alongside Thor & Ironman .

When Cap throws that disc, expect that anyone in the receiving end would be in a serious world of pain. He is durable enough to take a punch and has unlimited stamina to fight “all day.”  with Himself and Thanos .. I can do this all day

Batman

Intelligence & Wit
Batman is called the world’s greatest detective as a testament to his battle intelligence and wit. Bruce Wayne has an IQ of over 192, shaming even the great theoretical physicist Albert Einstein in a battle of intellect [1]. What Batman lacks in physical strength, he trained his mind to its peak to outsmart his adversaries.

Powers
The Dark Knight is not entirely devoid of “power.” His body and mind are trained to be at their peak human potential. This allows him to have a slight advantage over a regular human being. He’s an expert martial artist and a virtuoso in theatricality and deception — skills he picked up from training under the league of assassins.

Tactical Skills

Batman is often called the master of prep time because he has proved to outclass anyone once he is conditioned for a fight, and he is always prepared for battle. Though seemingly the physically weakest among the Justice League, he has a countermeasure to take everyone in the league down if needed, including gods like Superman and Wonder Woman.

Strengths
Bruce Wayne is not the epitome of strength in the DC universe. According to the comics, as far as strength goes, he is in peak human shape, but his gadgets, weapons, and theatrical skills allow him to win fights with relative ease.

Head To Head Combat
Intelligence

Captain America and Batman are some of the most intelligent individuals from the Marvel and DC comics. The Dark Knight sweeps the floor with Captain America from a purely intellectual standpoint. He is an expert in science and related topics, plus a faster thinker and a far better strategist than the Vibranium shield-wielder.

Tactical Advantage
Although Rogers maintains his position as the vigilant, moral-virtue-driven hero of all Avengers characters, he isn’t the brain. On the other hand, the caped crusader has always been the main strategist and tactician for the Justice League. So if he fights Captain America with “prep time,” the DC superhero would certainly win.

Martial Arts
Batman knows every fighting style on earth, but he primarily relies on some during a fight: Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Savate, Judo, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, and Karate [2]. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers knows Muay Thai, Kali, Taekwondo, Wushu, Krav Maga, Judo, Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, and Ninjutsu [3].

Batman vs Captain America is almost similar in martial arts adeptness, but Batman should earn rewards in this category for mastering all styles.

Strength & Physical Abilities

Some fans might think this is where Batman’s downfall starts, but you might be surprised. Captain America could press a maximum of 800-1200 pounds with a supreme effort in the comics. On the other hand, the Dark Knight of Gotham City could overhead lift around 1000 pounds and press slightly more than that [4].

Batman and Captain America would make awesome gym buddies, but the superheroes are evenly matched in terms of strength.

Speed & Agility
The chemical enhancement of Steve allowed him to achieve enhanced speed and agility to evade gunfire at point-blank ranges. Meanwhile, Batman’s speed is more a product of rigorous and diligent training throughout his lifetime. Both superheroes have almost similar attributes in this category, but Cap is more agile between the two heroes.

Durability & Stamina
Captain America and Batman are extremely durable, but Cap gets the win in this round because the Marvel comics describe him as literally immune to fatigue and has accelerated healing abilities. Batman took a hell of a long time to recover when Bane broke his back in the comics and games.

Reflexes

Aside from enhanced strength and speed, Cap also gained enhanced reflexes — enough to dodge bullets from point-blank range. While Batman, though more reflexive than an average human, just wouldn’t cut it in the reflexes department. In a Batman vs Captain America reflex-combat, America would take the win.

Gadgets & Weapon
Batman wins by the sheer number of gadgets he has at his disposal. The DC superhero has it all, from batarangs, awesome rides to sophisticated gadgets in his utility belt.

On the other hand, Captain America has a durable vibranium-steel alloy shield that is enough to defend against Red Skull and his tesseract-powered blaster.

Batman would easily win if he unleashed hell on Captain America if they fought.

Can Batman beat Captain America in hand-to-hand combat?
Yes, Batman could win in a hand-to-hand fight with Captain America. Given the physical similarity between Batman and Captain America in strength and agility, the victory could go either way if they fought. If both heroes make a mistake during the fight, the other could capitalize.

Did Batman ever beat Captain America?
Yes, in Marvel vs DC #3, Batman fought Captain America in the sewers and came home the winner. The fight was evenly matched, but the culmination of the battle ended when the water came rushing that rendered Captain America off-balance, and Batman capitalized with a Batarang that knocked Cap out completely.

However, if Batman and Captain America fought today, Captain America would be the victor after a hard-fought bout .  Especially if he had Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir
