Russia has raised the age limit for its soldiers by as much as 10 years as it prepares another 100,000 for combat in Ukraine.

According to the regulation adopted not too long ago, the highest-ranking reservists will be renewed until the age of 70, as an alternative to the earlier age of 65.
Men who have additionally completed their national service can return to the army until the age of 55 as an alternative to 45 years.
It comes after hundreds of thousands of men fled the country in September when Putin ordered mobilization without warning.

With its lowest toll in 23 years, the latest alarming report revealed that at least 47,000 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine since the start of the battle.
This is a far cry from the reported 6,000 soldiers killed in the decade-long war between Russia and Afghanistan.
Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for the Ukrainian army, said that Russia had ordered Storm-Z former captive battalions to organize a battle and was firing more than 500 rounds a day around Kupyansk.
He mentioned: “The enemy has concentrated a very strong group. More than 100,000 personnel, more than 900 tanks, more than 550 artillery systems and 370 missile salvo systems.
In April, it emerged that Putin plans to crack down on draft defaulters by creating a new digital conscription system.
At present, draft notices must be personally delivered to Russia, which many Russian men have managed to avoid by refusing to take out recruitment notices and fleeing the country.
Last month, Putin issued a call to Russia’s military and security services to say they were halting the slide into civil war when Wagner’s mercenaries rebelled and marched on Moscow, and he observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the makeshift conflict.
Addressing some 2,500 units of Russia’s security forces, National Guard and army, he said the people and the armed forces had united in opposition to the rebel mercenaries.
