I Had ordered items worth 122,000 Naira   on pay on delivery  .

The Scenario is quite simple and Cute if all things work  and a lot of things have to work for it to be what we call in Electronic Banking  STP Straight Through Process

I got there and was told NIBSS was down. NIBSS are the Arbritrators of The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System.

My Story

On my Way to The Jumia Pickup Center which is now the Only Available Option for People in Benin  i did a transfer from my GTB account to Opay Account . It worked without a Hitch .So NIBSS was working . At The Jumia Office I checked my Opay and Gtb They were working  and was told this time that NIBSS  via Paystack was down

I deduced Titan Bank used Paystack as a Digital Transfer Platform so PAystack was Down not NIBSS  and if Paystack was down Transfer was impossible for Payment for Jumia Goods .

You may now  wonder What Jumia Pay really does right ???

I normally pay Jumia Cash on Delivery Services via Opay.

So If Titan Bank was down then I needed to have to pay in Cash !

Cash for goods up to 122000 the charges by the POS was 3900 Naira ! Charges of 3900 naira for nothing when normal inter bank transfers are like 100Naira

It was quite an uproar as there were other customers who had far higher orders !

There is No More Home Delivery in almost all Jumia Orders in Edo State … AS most Locations are inaccessible  due to bad roads and some quite Dangerous in the Ancient City of Benin its Capital . This has left Many Delivery Agents out of Work .

  1. If Titan is Down You must use Cash to Pay
  2. Jumia Did not have POS to use Cards and they dont seem they are planning to
  3. Jumia’s Center Namuna Street GRA Benin  did not and does not have GOOD Internet Network . it is almost Perenial for Internet Access to go slow immediately you get there, they need to improve as their location is quite far serving a radius of almost 50 to 70km in the densely populated area around Sapele Road
  4. Only Saving Grace is The Staff . Very Diligent Understanding  and Hardworking

It has been confirmed Home Deliveries have been Greatly Reduced in Many cities by the Ecommerce Giant

Today, Jumia’s Titan Bank service faced a major system disruption, leaving many customers unable to complete “Pay on Delivery” transactions as usual.

The outage forced numerous customers to turn to point-of-sale (POS) agents to make payments, which came with additional transaction fees. Unlike the direct payment option through Jumia’s platform, POS agents typically charge a fee for handling cash withdrawals and payments, making this an unexpected and costly inconvenience for customers.

This interruption has led to frustration among shoppers, who rely on “Pay on Delivery” as a secure and convenient way to ensure they receive their products before payment. The breakdown affected not only customers but also sellers, who may experience delays in receiving payment or even cancellations due to the added hassle.

The incident highlights the critical importance of robust IT infrastructure for e-commerce platforms like Jumia, particularly for high-demand payment methods like “Pay on Delivery.” Having reliable backup systems or alternative payment solutions ready can help avoid such disruptions and maintain customer trust.

For now, affected customers may feel compelled to reach out to Jumia’s support or look for reassurances that the issue will be promptly resolved, especially as they incur additional, unanticipated fees.

If Jumia can address this swiftly and communicate transparently with affected users, it could mitigate the potential backlash. Nonetheless, today’s Titan Bank outage serves as a reminder of how dependent modern retail and logistics operations are on seamless, uninterrupted technology.
