The Convener of the Civil Society Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, has emphasised the need for deliberate action to ensure credible elections in 2027, warning that hope without effort is futile.
He spoke on a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Nwankwo said, “If I say I’m hopeful but do nothing, then nothing happens. If I say I’ve lost hope, then we do nothing. I have seen dictatorship and the brutality of unconstitutional rule. Nothing surpasses ensuring that our democracy survives.”
He stressed that Nigeria must go beyond optimism and actively work toward electoral reforms.
Nwankwo also criticised the internal structures of political parties, stating that a lack of internal democracy and fairness remains widespread.
