The Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the closure of public and private schools indefinitely in the southwest state.

retwtr.com reports that the closure of schools in Lagos was announced in a press statement on Monday by the state’s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi.

The statement which was titled, ‘Lagos directs students to stay at home’, quoted  Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the Commissioner for Education, as saying that the schools were shut down over “tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.”

This is coming at a time #EndSARS protests against police brutality and bad governance by Nigerian youths grounded academic activities in some schools in the state on Monday.

The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Government has directed all pupils/students in public and private schools to stay at home following the tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.

“A new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible.”

The Commissioner for Education who noted that “the safety of the pupils/students, parents and all staff working in schools is paramount at this critical period”, advised parents to “keep an eye on their wards and not allow them to be used as willing tools in the hands of those who might want to hijack the protests to unleash mayhem on the society”.

The Lagos State Commissioner also encouraged schools to “utilise other means of distance teaching and learning i.e radio, television and online media as they have been doing during and post the recent COVID-19 lockdown”.

Hussaini Coomasie, a self-acclaimed United Nations Peace Ambassador, has apologized to Nigerian youths for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to use force on protesters of the End Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

Coomasie in a video released on Saturday had stated that the protesters won’t march out under the leadership of former President Olusegun Obasanjo like they are doing under Buhari.

He had said, “I blame Buhari for taking things lightly. There are certain things that should be handled with an iron fist. Vladimir Putin says you should take the necessary process to deal with irregularities and not due process. There are times due process does not work but necessary process.”

“Whichever way that your country will be in peace, handle it. If the police fail to do what they are supposed to do, bring in the military.”

The video, however, did not go down well with Nigerians who signed a petition calling on the UN to strip Coomasie of his peace ambassadorship.

Meanwhile, it was discovered on UN website that Coomasie is not a UN ambassador of peace.

Following the petition filed by Nigerians, Coomasie released a new video apologising to Nigerian youths and endorsing the protests.

He noted that he was only airing his opinion and didn’t mean to offend anyone.

He said, “Good evening teeming Nigerian youths out there on the streets day and night protesting for the end of SARS or police brutality. As a Nigerian, like any other Nigerian, I have a right to air my view.”

“It may suit some people and it may hurt some people but in whichever way you take it, I am deeply sorry for the utterances I made in that video. Please accept my sincere apology. I endorse you fully and wholeheartedly.”

The Ayo Salami-led panel has been called out by the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, for verifying seized assets without the presence of his lawyers or himself.

The embattled EFCC boss noted that it is unfortunate that he closed his defence about two weeks ago without the panel giving him the chance to prove his innocence.

Magu stated this in a statement released through his lawyer, Wahab Shittu.

Shittu noted that his client has nothing to hide, unlike the panel, which it claimed allegedly refused to give him fair hearing.

The statement said: “Our attention has just been drawn to a sponsored and jaundiced story in which our client, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, the suspended Acting Chairman of the EFCC, is being portrayed in a negative light by Justice Isa Salami-led Judicial Commission of Enquiry.”

“In the story, the panel was quoted as saying that Magu did not give satisfactory answers to its questions on recovered assets.”

The story had said the panel was embarking on verification of seized assets across the country in the absence of our client or his counsel, in spite of our client being the main subject of enquiry by virtue of the instruments establishing the Judicial Commission of Enquiry.”

“It is an exercise in futility for the panel to conduct verification of recovered assets in the absence of Magu and his lawyers and thereafter proceed to write a report without clarification from him.”

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the media report, like the previous orchestrated stories against our client.”

“But we are of the opinion that the timing is suspicious and there is the need to take up issues with the media report on the grounds that the reporter quoted sources close to the panel as the arrowheads of the story with a predetermined agenda.”

“It is on records that our client closed his defence two weeks ago without the opportunity to call any witness to strengthen his innocence as applications to call witnesses and subpoena certain individuals, including AGF Abubakar Malami (SAN), were blatantly refused by Justice Salami.”

A Pro-SARS supporter has exposed to a group of men who disguised themselves as supporters of the SARS, how they were hired and people that hired them to disrupt the #EndSARS peaceful protest in the federal capital city, Abuja.

Confessing to the disguised men as recorded in a now-viral video, the unnamed citizen disclosed that they were hired by top government officials both from the All Progressive Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
